LEE ASHFORTH – Goalkeeper
Signed at the start of January from Glasshoughton W. Has also played for Harrogate Railway. Superb motivator and shot-stopper. Lively character.
ROSS McDONALD – Goalkeeper
One of Sedge’s U19 keepers who has developed well since joining the club two years ago. Also plays for the successful Heckmondwike Old Boys side.
SIMON WOOD – Defender
Was a key player in Liversedge’s FA Cup run a couple of seasons ago. Ex Halifax Town, Wakefield & Emley with loads of quality who also coaches Sedge’s U19s.
CRAIG SUGDEN – Defender Club skipper and former Thackley stalwart signed this season. A tremendous motivator who will add experience as well as quality to Sedge’s backline.
MATTY FAHY– Defender
Good, solid, ball playing full back, also comfortable on the left or in midfield. Returned to the club from Howden Clough’s West Yorkshire League winning side, after previously playing at Sedge as a youngster under Wayne Bruce. Another local lad, he’s already contributed well this season.
JOE HEWITT – Defender
Ex Ossett Town Academy, Joe has been at the club for 3 years firstly with the U19s and his performances saw him called into the 1st team squad 2 seasons ago. Joe spent time also at Bradford Park Avenue last season, playing under Steve Newton. A versatile player, Assistant Manager also for our U19s, he can play at the back or wide midfield, reads the game well and adds quality to the team.
DALE WRIGHT – Defender
Joined Sedge this season, an Academy player, has performed well in the pre-season and got himself into the senior squad. Promises well.
MATTHEW SPARKES – Defender
Big hearted and solid performer, who joined Sedge last season from local league football and soon established himself in the senior side. Good in the air, strong and always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
ANDY MARKHAM – Defender/Midfield
Been at Sedge over 5 years, a solid quality performer, ex Halifax Town and Boston Utd youth player who was unlucky not to break into the bigtime. Scorer of the goal that put Harrogate Town out of the FA Cup and a key figure in our successful FA cup run.
DARRYL LEACH – Defender/Midfield
Signed this season from the successful Wibsey West Riding County Amateur side. Can play in several positions, to add value to the squad.
JORDAN MALTAS – Defender/Midfield
Promising young defender signed two seasons ago and soon established himself in the Academy side. Has matured well and has been in every first team squad.
PAUL SMITH – Defender/Midfield
Another big hearted and solid performer who re-joined Sedge this season. Was a regular in the Eugene Lacy era but moved to Howden Clough for two seasons in the West Yorkshire League. He’s back, he’s fit and could play a major part.
CRAIG SHERIDAN – Defender/Midfield Industrious midfielder, who joined Sedge last season from Bradford Park Avenue. Now established himself as a regular member of the senior side.
NOEL WHITAKER – Midfield
Ex Ossett Town & Bradford Park Avenue. Another ball-playing Academy graduate, who’s been at the club for three seasons. Played for the County as a junior and is capable of scoring spectacular goals.
DANNY BENTLEY – Midfield A key player now in Sedge’s Academy side and consistent performances have seen him get his chance with the first team. A busy midfielder who likes a strike on goal when given the opportunity.
JAMES COUBROUGH – Midfield/Forward Experienced former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, who joined Sedge this season, from Ossett Town. Can unlock defences with his vision and communicates well.
DANNY COOPER – Midfield Re-joined Sedge this season, from West Yorkshire league football. Solid in the challenge with a great shot and he has now established himself in the senior side.
NICKY BOSHELL – Midfield/Forward Ex Bradford Park Avenue player, who has great skill and vision. Consistently performs well and is a set piece specialist, who likes a strike on goal when given the opportunity.
ANDY POUNDER – Midfield/Forward Another former Clayborn forward, who has re-signed this season from local football. Great vision with a good eye for goal and a killer pass when required.
IAN BECKRAM – Midfield/Forward
Another ex Bradford Park Avenue winger. Still an U19s player, who promises well for the future. Can play in several positions.
MATTHEW BIDDLE – Midfield/Forward
A former Huddersfield Town junior, signed this season from local football. Pacy, with a good touch. Still young but loads of potential.
LUKE SHERMAN – Forward Tall former Bradford Park Avenue forward who was approached by Sedge last season but ended up getting a call from their 1st team. A defender’s nightmare as he holds well but also has a terrific strike.
DANNY CLAPHAM - Forward
Pacy frontman, signed this season from AFC Emley. He can play either out wide or as a striker and was part of the successful Howden Clough side that won the West Yorkshire League title. A local lad, he has settled in quickly as he already knows quite a few of the Sedge lads and management.
WAYNE CROSSLEY – Forward
A former Wakefield & Emley forward signed four seasons ago. When fit he is a defender’s nightmare as he loves to hassle them into errors. Natural goal scorer. Part of the successful FA Cup side.
DAMIAN MELVIN – Forward A former Clayborn forward who has re-signed this season from local football. Sharp minded and strong with good distribution, he will cause defenders problems.
STEVE NEWTON – Team Manager
Steve was short listed for the temporary job last season, following the resignation of Eugene Lacy but circumstances meant he couldn’t be appointed at the time. Finally was secured in June 2007 for the permanent job. He brings bags of experience having been at Unibond Premier side Ossett Town as U19s Manager, then promoted to Reserve Team Manager. He was then asked to go to Bradford Park Avenue as their Reserve Team Boss, becoming caretaker manager for quite a few games when Gary Brook left the club. Steve is really up for this new challenge and the club feels the timing is right for both parties, which will hopefully lead to some success.
ANDY BARBER – Assistant Manager
Joined with Steve in June 2007, “Spud” is well known around the Liversedge area, having managed several successful sides. A character off the field, he acts as a great motivator for the squad and compliments Steve.
KATY ALLAN – Physio
Joined the club in August 2007. Originally from Leeds, Katy trained at York St. Johns University for 3 years. Has a Bsc (Hons) degree from the University of Leeds in Physiotherapy.
This is her first time working with a football team but she’s had experience in a variety of areas of physiotherapy before and throughout her training.
